Two things:
1) I broke out the handlebar camera for Sunday's Dorey Park ride, kind of testing the works before the big ride. Pretty snazzy shots of men in lycra.
2) Now for the really volatile question. I've always thought of myself as a cyclist of the more industrial sort, eschewing the more nuanced of practices and equipment. I mean, how complex does turning the pedals need to be? As such, my legs have remained hairy throughout. For the ride, though, I'm considering shaving for the first time in the interest of making it as easy as possible. Upsides? Downsides? Thus far, the opinions I've heard have run the gamut, but all have been deeply held. What do you think?

Andy - this is very cool! I'll be following you on route. Good luck! Denise
ReplyDeleteeither way, it's not goin' to be pretty.
ReplyDeleteAndy, great hearing about all your centuries. For the record, the guy who has scored the most centuries is an Indian guy called Sachin Tendulkar. He is somewhat of a demi-god back home. His first century was in England or New Zealand and it came when he was 18. Just last month, he scored his 42nd century. It was vintage Sachin and one of the best cricket innings I have ....
ReplyDeleteNever mind, wrong sport!!
Hey Andy!
ReplyDeletethis is going to be great following you on your journey. And I just know there are going to be plenty of crazy stories....I mean really, you biking across the country...so many possiblities!!

andy - love the handlebarcam. very cool. your grammar and wordsmithing are also most impressive, "cyclist of the more industrial sort, eschewing the more nuanced of practices and equipment." classic! lol.
ReplyDeletebefore you shave your legs, clean your bike. this will prodigiously provide the foundation for stupendous cycling of the righteouly epic sort. lol.

Jeff has clearly been victimized by the oily spray that flies from my bike in all weather conditions. Fortunately, my personal hygiene achieves a higher standard than my bike hygiene.
ReplyDeleteKrish, that's awesome!! I would love to hear more stories of Indian cricket glory. You know my passion for ancient history.
ReplyDeleteTo shave or not to shave? You must be joking. What if none of it grows back? What if it all grows back grey or burgundy?
ReplyDeleteWhat if you bleed as much as your sister when she shaves? Best keep a pint of blood handy.
Hope your ankle is OK.
Love your handlebar cam - turn it on yourself once in a while. Like to see you sweat.
Mom
Several women in my cycling class at the Downtown YMCA (though as I recall your former associate was not among them) suggested rather forcefully that I should shave my legs. They tell me men with shaved legs are sexy. Who am I to argue with that? So I did it. All things considered there was surprisingly little blood loss.
